How Karissa overcame postpartum depression

Like so many moms, Karissa has struggled with postpartum depression after the birth of her 7 month-old child. She recently moved from Kelowna, where she faced an increasingly difficult family situation, to the Comox Valley. Space was tight in the 500 sq. ft. RV she shared with her husband and two young children. They struggled to branch out, make friends, and find community resources, but Karissa knew she needed a fresh start.

People experiencing postpartum depression often feel extreme sadness, anxiety, and fatigue. When Karissa and her children began attending the United Way-funded Neighbourhood Connections Program at the Comox Valley Family Services Association (CVFSA), her family quickly developed a sense of belonging within their community. With United Way's support, the CVFSA continues to help people like Karissa manage the challenges of parenthood and family development. Your donations are what makes their work possible.
