RBC Initiative with Local United Way Sees Staff Donate Blankets to Those in Need
Blanket donations bringing warmth, care this winter
There are many ways to help our neighbours in need: for local Nanaimo RBC branches, they’ve brought warmth and care with their Blanket the Island with Kindness initiative.
After hearing from United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island on the need in the community, RBC branch staff came together to donate blankets to be given to those so often left in the cold over the winter.
Staff in various branches brought in blankets over the month of December, and United Way directed these donations to local frontline service agencies who could get them to those in need.
With an emergency shelter program, housing support programs and much more, ICCS has found itself handing out many blankets this winter and were glad to accept this donation.
The blankets have since gone out to participants in a variety of ICCS programs, bringing not just warmth, but a feeling of comfort that their community cares for them.
“Donations such as the blankets given through “Blanket the Island with Kindness” make a huge difference for client’s feelings of well-being and security, making them feel cared for and comforted,” said ICCS resource development coordinator, Elspeth Erickson.
United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island is proud to see this kind of community response when we reach out for support for our most vulnerable.
