RBC Donation Helps Cowichan Youth Build New Skills

A huge thank you to RBC Duncan branch for their donation of $21,000!

The funds are part of RBC Future Launch, which empowers Canadian youth for the jobs of tomorrow by helping them access meaningful employment through work experience, skills development and/or networking.

The donation will be invested in a youth education program, thanks to a partnership between Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island and the Hiiye’yu Lelum Friendship Society and Cowichan Tribes.

Youth Success Build

Hiiye’yu Lelum Friendship Society and Cowichan Tribes currently offer a career advancement program that teaches essential employment skills, builds confidence and helps youth earn certifications to become job-ready.

Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island will add an educational component to this existing program to teach youth about the importance of volunteerism. Program participants will get outside the classroom and get their hands dirty as they join in a ‘Build Day’.

By helping to build affordable housing for someone in their community, they’ll learn about teamwork and the importance of supporting others, all while helping a low-income family become self-reliant homeowners.
