With your help, United Way inspires “Local Love"

This fall is all about the #locallove!

Local love means tackling the tough social issues that directly impact your community. Thanks to donors like you, United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island is building coalitions and networks that work together to help our most vulnerable residents and to address our most critical social challenges.

We believe there’s strength in numbers, and by creating strong partnerships, directing efforts (including United Way grants) in a coordinated way, we can ensure your donated dollars have an even bigger impact.

Our “Show Your Local Love” campaign kicked off with a breakfast event at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in Nanaimo featuring the Honourable Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. (Read more about his keynote speech and new poverty reduction strategy.)

Local love is transforming Vancouver Island communities! Watch our local love campaign video. You’re sure to be inspired by how your United Way donation is improving the lives of those around you.

Tell us about your act of local love – we’ll make sure others are inspired.

Join our fall campaign by showing your local love! Local love is all about local people doing good things in their community; every action, no matter how big or small can positively impact those around you.

Signy Madden, our executive director, showed her #locallove through making her leadership gift to United Way and sponsoring two young women who are students at VIU to attend the recent Celebration for Women’s History Month luncheon to hear an inspiring female speaker and connect with professional women of all ages.

Spread the love in your community through random acts of kindness, volunteering for a local charity, making a donation to United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island, or by kicking off a United Way fundraising campaign in your workplace.

Why does giving locally through United Way matter to you? Got a great quote? We’d love to hear it and share it on social media (tag us @UWCNVI).

What other acts of local love are you into? Recently, some of our wonderful donors gave feminine hygiene products for us to share with local shelters. The donations were so needed.
