United Way nominated for Campbell River Not-for-Profit of the Year award
Our investments in essential social services for vulnerable populations and our work to end homelessness were recognized by the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce this fall. United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island was honoured with a nomination for the Not-for-Profit of the Year Award!
In 2018, thanks to donations from people like you, we have invested in nine different social service organizations in Campbell River to provide support to children, youth, families and seniors – some of the most vulnerable people in the community.
Other recent achievements that helped earn our nomination:
- We mobilized collective action to create the Campbell River Coalition to End Homelessness and the Campbell River Seniors Network.
- We applied for a New Horizon’s Grant to move the Seniors Network forward to becoming a Seniors HUB.
- As an advisory committee member for the Strathcona Community Health Network’s Housing Needs Assessment, we provided input into the final report, which offers a baseline understanding of housing needs in the region.
- We partnered with the Campbell River Community Foundation on the 2018 Comox Valley Vital Signs Report, an assessment on the quality of life in the Comox Valley.
Update: The winner of the Not-for-Profit of the Year Award from the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce was recently announced: Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North. Congratulations!
