The Power of Giving
On GivingTuesday, December 3, we’re showing our love for the communities we live in by helping those who don’t have a place to call home. Will you join us?
An estimated 875 people are facing homelessness right here on Vancouver Island from the Malahat north on any given night. These are among the most vulnerable people in our communities who lack essentials they need to move toward a better future.
On GivingTuesday you can make a real difference for people in need. On this day, you can join millions of people across the globe as they come together in a movement of generosity to support causes in their communities. Through the force of collective giving, every individual act of volunteerism or donation to United Way is amplified by the sheer number of people who participate on this global day of giving.
Established in 2012 as a celebratory kickoff to the holiday giving season, GivingTuesday happens on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday and has become a worldwide philanthropic event. In 2018, millions of Canadians joined 6,500 charities and businesses to raise more than $15 million on GivingTuesday. And United Way stands ready to keep the momentum going this year to help people move from poverty to possibility, in Canada, and around the world.
Together we can tackle #UNIGNORABLE issues in our communities and change lives. Last year alone, United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island helped over 52,000 people.
With every dollar donated on GivingTuesday, we know we can do more. Our goal is to help meet the basic needs of our communities’ most vulnerable people, giving every Canadian the opportunity to realize a better future.
Won’t you join the world on GivingTuesday, December 3, to help create opportunities for people to find a home – and stay there? If you’ve never been a part of GivingTuesday, let this be your year to use the power of giving to provide safe, stable housing in your community.
