On Conscious Kindness Day, a nationwide United Way initiative, we invited some of our most loyal and generous donors to an afternoon Tea and Toques event to show our gratitude.

It was a delight to hear the stories of their kindness and why they give. We also collected hundreds of lovely toques, mitts, and socks for folks in need of a little warmth next winter.

Conscious Kindness Day is dedicated to spreading #LocalLove throughout the community via random acts of kindness and consideration. Whether it be a smile, holding the door, or sharing a meal, each small act can make a big difference in someone’s day.

A big thank you to a few United Way partners who helped us promote acts on social media: 102.3fm The Wave, SD68, Nanaimo Port Authority, VIU and City of Nanaimo.

You helped make this initiative a success!

Showing kindness and compassion is the first step to creating social change and improving the lives of those in need. Your donations make these changes a possibility.

Watch for this annual event next May and join us in spreading #LocalLove.

Here are 28 ways you can share kindness today!
