Although we do not have an office in Campbell River (too much cost from donor dollars for physical infrastructure), our 1-800 and website contacts indicate a substantial number of requests coming from the Campbell River and Black Creek communities as well as surrounding areas including Port Hardy, Port McNeil, etc. We have several trained health professionals servicing Campbell River/Courtenay/Comox who deliver programs on a rotating basis to those communities; in addition, as resources permit, we bring in doctors, medical research specialists, rheumatologists, pain specialists, orthopaedic surgeons, etc., to do larger forums.

The North Island Supportive Recovery Society has been operating the Second Chance Recovery House since 1990. Each year Second Chance serves more than 200 men ages 18 and over.

The funding we receive from the United Way is used for our Support Groups program. During their stay at Second Chance the clients attend twice daily support groups Monday to Friday and once on Saturdays. The support groups give our clients the information and skills they need to help them maintain their sobriety and live a more fully realized life. They learn about such things as anger management, communication skills, other addictions associated issues (e.g. gambling, co-dependency, HIV/AIDS/Hep C) and life skills.

They also go on outings, such as AA campouts, First Nations sweat lodges, fishing and swimming.  In addition, our clients work one-on-one with staff to prepare their “after care plan,” which includes such topics as where they will live and work/go to school and what AA/NA meetings they will attend.
