2011 Conference Announcement

26-04-2009
United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada Announces Conference Host city for 2011

At today’s Annual General Meeting, it was announced that the next major conference that convenes the entire Movement will take place in the spring of 2011 in Calgary, Alberta. This decision is the result of consultations with the Board of Directors of United Way of Canada-Centraide Canada (UWC-CC), staff, and volunteers across the Movement over the last few months.

Given the economic downturn, many United Ways-Centraides are currently re-examining all the costs of business and some have placed restrictions on travel and professional development.  A high quality National Conference has been a cornerstone of our commitment to provide members with annual learning and networking opportunities. UWC-CC remains committed to providing members with an accessible and affordable learning program in 2010.

Coming together as a Movement remains essential in the development of our mission and shared goals. Today the ways in which we can and must link our Movement together both through in person events and electronic communication has grown significantly.  We plan to take advantage of these opportunities in 2010.  We are still planning on holding our AGM combined with a more focused learning forum in 2010.   More details on our plans for 2010 will be shared with you in the coming months.

We have prepared the following key messages for your use when discussing this issue with your colleagues at your local United Way-Centraide, volunteers and various stakeholders.

Key messages

In these economic times, government, for profit and not for profit sectors alike are re-examining all the costs of business and many have placed restrictions on travel and professional development.

In recognition of the current environment and following extensive discussion with staff and volunteer leaders, UWC-CC is announcing that the next major conference that convenes the entire movement will take place in 2011 in Calgary Alberta.  Special thanks to the United Way of Calgary and Area for their willingness to help us host this event.

A high quality National Conference has been a cornerstone of our commitment to providing annual learning and networking for members.  UWC-CC remains committed to providing an accessible and affordable learning program in 2010.

UWC-CC plans to host its AGM combined with a more focused learning forum in 2010.  This single day event will substantially reduce participation costs and we will make use of web based tools to ensure broad access to this forum for those unable to attend in person.

The AGM event, combined with other planned learning forums in 2010 will ensure that UWC-CC offers a compelling learning program that is affordable and accessible for members.

We look forward to sharing more news about our program for 2010 in the coming months.
